What is ITAS?

The Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) is part of the Commonwealth government’s Indigenous Education Direct Assistance program. Each year, the Commonwealth government provides QUT with funds to conduct the ITAS program through the provision of tutorial assistance to eligible students in accordance with the funding contract and guidelines.

The amount of funding that QUT receives for the ITAS program may vary from year to year. It is the responsibility of the Oodgeroo Unit to ensure that ITAS funds are directed only to those Indigenous students who meet eligibility requirements and that all funds are expended in accordance with program guidelines. All applications for assistance under the ITAS program will be assessed in terms of a student’s eligibility and the availability of funds.

Who is eligible for ITAS assistance?

To be eligible for ITAS assistance, a student must be:

Are there restrictions on tutorial assistance?

Students do not have a set entitlement to ITAS tuition.   The purpose of the academic assessment is to determine how much tuition is needed over a given period of time.

There are, however, Commonwealth restrictions on the number of hours an individual student may receive.

A student may only receive tuition for a maximum of two hours per unit per week. In addition to this, a further five hours in total per student, may be approved during examination preparation periods.

Tutorial assistance is not available for subjects or activities outside a student’s course requirements, for example, private music or drama lessons or sports coaching.
