How to apply
Students applying for Alternate Entry through QTAC participate in a special Assessment and Selection Program.
QTAC sends the Oodgeroo Unit a list of all identified Aborigines or Torres Strait Islanders applying for entry to QUT in late November.
All applicants will be sent information about the times for interviews as soon as possible. All applicants must participate in interviews, for those courses in which they are applying, with representatives from Faculties and Oodgeroo Unit.
The interviews have two purposes;
- to assess the applicant's potential to manage a tertiary course,
- to provide the applicant with sufficient information about courses so that he/she makes an informed choice about the course of study.
These will be included in the interview process to assess applicants' levels and to determine the support that will be required in these areas.
With respect to School Leavers, the O.P. Scores will, of course, also be taken into consideration.
The Interviewing Panels are responsible for recommending applicants to Faculties for positions. These decisions will be made during interviews.
Faculty representatives are interested in the academic competence of applicants. Unit staff are also interested in this domain but in addition they are interested in such matters as;
- level of maturity to handle tertiary studies,
- ability to manage financially,
- what family supports are available and what support might be needed from the Unit,
- concerns applicants might have about starting at university,
- other special needs.
Any student nominating QUT as among their first two preferences will be invited for an interview. Students who have QUT as a third preference may request an interview.
