Oodgeroo Unit

The Oodgeroo Unit has a major responsibility and commitment to developing better access to university education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people so that more have opportunities to participate in the higher levels of education. It also performs a leadership role in the university in the promotion of cultural awareness and social justice for Australia's Indigenous people.

Oodgeroo Noonuccal

Oodgeroo Noonuccal (Kath Walker) [1920 - 1993] Born on Stradbroke Island in Moreton Bay. Once she was taught to read as a child, she set about learning the meaning of every word in the English dictionary.

A proud, strong, determined woman who spent her life educating non- Indigenous and Indigenous people about the importance of equality, education and tolerance towards Indigenous Australia.
